Without a doubt the ’70s are back. When it came to the Spring/Summer 2015 runway designers were not shy about their nostalgia for the age of disco, Studio 54, eclectic style and bold colors. If you read one of our most recent posts Jumpsuits for Spring 2015 then you may have started to get the hint that there was a retro vibe happening for this coming season. Design houses like Derek Lam, House of Holland, Prada, Etro, and Gucci were only some of the many that presented their nods to this very sexy era. So many elements like crochet, denim, bright patterns, suede and fringes were all part of the many looks. Just keep in mind that when certain decades become a trending topic on and off the runway it doesn’t mean it has to be taken too literal. Maybe you have a soft spot for this era but just not a fan of the platform shoes and flared trousers. In that case find pieces that work best with your style. It could be a suede jacket, a fringed handbag, a pair of bold sunglasses or bohemian flowy dress. It’s just a matter of finding the right balance without becoming to time warped and dated.
They say in life there are no coincidences and this just may be true. Simultaneously while preparing this post for our readers the Museum at FIT in New York City was opening a new exhibit called Yves Saint Laurent + Halston, Fashioning the 70s. This takes a closer look at two of the most dominating design forces of that period, none other than Yves Saint Laurent and Halston. It examines their influential works and aesthetics from the late 60’s to the 80’s. If you are a resident or visiting the New York area for Fashion Week or anytime between now and April 18th, this is a MUST SEE! It won’t cost you a dime since access to the museum is 100% free!
Fashionistas tell us how you feel about the return of the groovy 70’s for Spring 2015. Will you be embracing this trend or taking a pass? Always welcome your comments below.
