10 FAMOUS WOMEN AGING GRACEFULLY IN HOLLYWOOD

“There is a fountain of youth: It is in your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.” Those sensible and wise words were once said by Sophia Loren. A woman who even today at 81 years of age, still exudes beauty, intelligence and sophistication. We seem to be living in a time when the obsession with beauty is at an all time high. As if women didn’t already have pressure to balance work and home life, there is the added pressure to lose weight, stay fit, have flawless skin, impeccable hair and of course, stay young.

Women everywhere are taking extreme measures in order to turn back the hands of time and look younger. It’s hard not to notice that even teenage celebrities and non-celebrity girls are getting procedures done to alter their faces and bodies very early on. It has become more common for women (yes and the men too are not exempt here) to get nips, tucks, lifts, botox injections and all kinds of a la carte treatments to get rid of lines and plump anything that doesn’t feel flattering. Not to mention the beauty industry has exploded with the amount of makeup and age defying products. So the question here is, when does all of it become too much? When does this fascination become just the wrong message to send to women, their daughters, granddaughters and society as a whole? Sure there is the double standard that men age like fine wine and are more distinct with wrinkles. Yet, let’s not forget that we live in a time where women are more successful, powerful and influential in many ways and industries. It’s time to take back our power and show the younger generation that aging is a normal and acceptable process. Meryl Streep once said, “Don’t waste so much time worrying about your skin or your weight. Develop what you do, what you put your hands on in the world”. This is not to say that one shouldn’t take care of your appearance. It’s about striking that right balance. Why not embrace every decade with excitement. Fill the experience with curiosity, laughter and new adventures. Perhaps they may bring with them a few extra lines and that is totally ok! It shows you have lived, it gives you stories to tell and builds on your character. Legendary actress Helen Hayes once said, “I love my wrinkles! I call them my service stripes”.

Luckily, there are still women that are not walking around with frozen, unrecognizable faces in the world of Hollywood.
