New York Fashion Week may have wrapped, but the editors and fashion teams have packed their glam bags and are off to cover London Fashion Week. Here in the Big Apple the week of shows came with some interesting shows, crazed schedules, political messages and some noticeable changes in some of the shows. Today we are counting down some of our favorite moments from NYFW Fall 2017. So sit back as we bring you the highlights without the fuss.
- Coming in at numero UNO: The highest amount of plus sized models walked the runway shows at NYFW Fall 2017. All thanks to designers like Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors and Christian Siriano who gave these ladies this grand opportunity. How exciting to see some inclusion of more curvier figures on the runway that is more realistic and representative of what many women look like. It has been long overdue and we hope more brands continue to embrace all sizes. According to Glamour Magazine, there was a total of 27 plus-size models that walked the shows. This is a good step in a good direction for sure!
2. “As a born and bred New Yorker, it was during my time at the High School of Art and Design when I began to see and feel the influence of hip-hop on other music as well as art and style. This collection is my representation of the well-studied dressing up of casual sportswear. It is an acknowledgment and gesture of my respect for the polish and consideration applied to fashion from a generation that will forever be the foundation of youth culture street style.” Enough said and bravo Marc Jacobs!
3. Coming in at number 3, Ralph Lauren’s buy now, wear now Spring 2017 collection was a crowd favorite. Between the neutral earthy tones, exotic structured handbags, chunky knit sweaters, metallics and sandy tones we couldn’t get enough. Great inspiration for some easy going spring/summer days ahead.
4. TRENDS, TRENDS, TRENDS! For those wondering about the most popular trends seen on the runways this time around, well there were some good familiar ones. Now, some may say trends are not relevant anymore and that they are repetitive season after season. There is some truth behind that but nevertheless, it’s how these looks are reinterpreted by designers. There were some looks and styles that we definitely like to check out for spring and fall, yes even if they are familiar ones. Some of our favorite repeats on the runway? Mix of feminine and masculine women’s suits with a pop of color, burgundy, gold plenty of gold, plaids galore and velvet.
