Fashion is making their political voice heard this week and quite loudly. NYFW designers and models on and off the runway are utilizing their talent and art to speak up about the current issues we are facing. It was to be expected with women’s rights being challenged, immigration injustices and the talk of walls and bans in the White House. We were wondering just a few weeks ago why there was so much silence from the fashion industry. Well, it looks as though they decided to let the clothes do the talking. Shows like Prabal Gurung, Public School, Christian Siriano just to name a few, made their beliefs quite clear on the runway. We are all living in a world that is completely different than it was ten years ago, five years ago or even five months ago when we last had fashion month. With so much divisiveness and uncertainty, the one thing that we can do is spread kindness, solidarity and strength. The fashion industry has a list of designers from countries from around the world and has always had a strong female presence. The statement of inclusiveness is so important right now as is staying united as a collective. With three more days left of NYFW and many eyes on the headlines, it will be interesting to see who else on the fashion roster will rise to the occasion. What do you think fashionistas? How do you feel about the fashion industry taking a political stand during fashion week?
