MET GALA 2015 RED CARPET

The most talked about gala in fashion took place on Monday, May 4th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year the Costume Institute takes a closer look at centuries of Chinese fashion and its impact on western culture. The exhibit called ‘China: Through the Looking Glass will open its doors to the public on May 7th. Now back to the Met Ball and all the interesting moments at tonights gala. It’s always interesting to see how celebrities will incorporate their style and the high fashion theme of the night. This year the fashion powers that be stated that there were no selfies allowed inside the doors of the event and live streaming was not available this year either. Still every social media outlet had plenty of minute to minute coverage. Upon the clock hitting 6pm EST the arrivals began and leading the red carpet was Anna Wintour in a floral Chanel Couture gown. Followed by the lineup of who’s Hollywood’s elite. Everyone from Jennifer Lawrence, Madonna, SJP, Anne Hathaway, Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez, Kerry Washington and more. There were several gowns that really were quite beautiful and some of the trends were tones of green, red, gold and poppy inspired florals. Ornate headpieces were a big trend of the night and some of the ladies who ‘headlined’ (yes the pun is intended) this trend were SJP, Rihanna, Selena Gomez and Kate Hudson. It was nice to see some celebrities make an effort to carry through references of Chinese fashion in their gowns. However, it almost seemed like the main theme of the night was almost naked, barely there, sheer and wearing undergarments was well, almost not even an option. Some examples would be Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus. What’s ironic is that Rihanna who usually teases with provocative photo shoots and pushes the envelope on her social media was the one with the most fabric. Rumor has it she walked the red carpet in the end because they needed to clear the space for her gown. Enough said.

And so, we have rounded up our eight picks for best dressed, favorite fashion designer/celebrity duo, best dressed couple, top picks for hair and makeup. As you know, One Style at a Time doesn’t highlight the worse dressed, BUT we did find the need to bring you some ‘oh my gosh’ over the top moments. So fashion readers who were your favorites at the Met Gala? Which starlets did you love and which did you dislike? How do you feel about all the barely there gowns? Tell us what you really think. Leave your comments and share your thoughts.

2015 OSCARS: TOP 10 BEST DRESSED OF THE NIGHT

Welcome to the most glamorous red carpet event in Hollywood, the 87th annual Academy Awards. The Oscars is the most anticipated evening when it comes to movies, fashion and the arts. It has been a busy few months for A-listers and of course their team of stylists, hair and makeup glam squads who prep celebrities to look their best. Like any award season naturally there are some major fashion moments that deserve praise and others that sadly underwhelmed. Weeks leading up to the Oscars there is much buzz as to who is going to wear what, will it be a safe red carpet and who will take a fashion risk.

The 2015 Oscars fashion may have been considered safe in general but still there were some incredible gowns. The most notable colors were whites, blush/nudes, red and the staple black. Lets begin with actress Zoe Saldana who just recently gave birth to twins and looked stunning showcasing her curves in a blush Atelier Versace gown. The hair and makeup were simple yet elegant and did not distract from her dress. Rosamund Pike’s red laced Givenchy gown was a perfect fit for a leading lady. Then you had the Jennifer trifecta. Lopez in a princess Elie Saab gown and Aniston in a nude dazzling Versace gown that was perfection head to toe. Jennifer Hudson popped in a simple but body sculpting yellow strapless, gold belted gown. Oscar nominee Felicity Jones was a vision in her ball gown by Alexander McQueen and Margot Robbie made head turns in her black chiffon sleeved, plunging neckline Saint Laurent gown. Yet it was hard not to notice Margot’s statement necklace which just so happens to be a $1.5 million dollar Van Cleef and Arpels vintage piece that was commissioned by the Duchess of Windsor back in 1938.

So without further adieu we leave you with our top ten picks for BEST DRESSED at this year’s Oscars. Tell us if your favorites are on this list or if you had other favorites not seen here. WHO RULED THE GOLDEN GLOBES? BEST DRESSED 2015

Hello award season! Let’s cut the red ribbon, open up the red carpet and here comes the 2015 Golden Globes. The anticipation has been building for a while as to which movies, actors and actresses would be nominated and win in their category. However, the peak of this big night in Hollywood usually revolves around who is wearing what? Who took a risk, who went too safe, who blew us away with a perfect head to toe look. One Style at a Time is ready to bring you our choices of best dressed, best hair/makeup and who wore the top trends the best.

It was an interesting night and although there were some pretty bad misses from several ladies, we were happy to see the majority brought their A-game. The favorite of the night hands down was the talented and beautiful Jessica Chastain who wore a pleated bronzed gown with a plunging neckline by Atelier Versace. The makeup was exquisite and the side swept hair complemented this look to perfection. Jessica has the right combination of old Hollywood glamour with today’s fashion femininity. She nailed it for sure. The amazing Amy Adams who many would consider a ‘safe’ fashion player on the red carpet stunned in a periwinkle draped gown also by Atelier Versace (you can’t go wrong with Versace right?) She was pure elegance from head to toe. Our next pick is Julianne Moore who sparkled in a Givenchy Haute Couture gown. She was stunning in this silver and feathered gown that not too many women could carry, however she was flawless in it and the risk paid off. Next up is Emma Stone in a Lanvin pantsuit. Pantsuits at award shows can be tricky but who better than Emma to pull this modern yet elegant look. Finally, a fan-favorite who commands a red carpet is the lovely Reese Witherspoon. She strutted her beauty in a shimmering, strapless Calvin Klein floor length gown. From the hair to the jewels Reese quickly had our attention as a best dressed candidate. Certainly there were other ladies that made quite a splash on the red carpet, but these were the ones that deserved to take top honors. Besides celebrating the excellence in fashion we also wanted to showcase some of the best hair/makeup and of course some of the best representatives of the night’s top trends.

So there you have it fashion readers! Our roundup of the best of the red carpet for this year’s Golden Globes. Now award season has only started. It will be interesting to see what direction stylists and celebrities will take. Now it’s your turn to share what were your favorite looks. Who made your list of best dressed?
